Team Q&A: Todd Hudgens – Senior Software Developer

With renewable energy technologies evolving and electrical vehicles reshaping the load curve, Todd Hudgens is here to help as Virtual Peaker’s newest Senior Software Develop!

What did you do before joining Virtual Peaker?

I grew up in Louisville and then went to Georgia Tech to get my bachelor’s in Computer Science with concentrations in User Interface Design and Education Technology. After college, I worked at an e-commerce start-up and then spent 10 years at a B2B communications company. Most recently, I did contract work at Virtual Peaker for a few months before I was asked to join the company full-time.

What’s your role at Virtual Peaker?

ToddHudgens_homebrewingMy role at Virtual Peaker is to make life easier for our clients, so I take lots of pride in developing user interfaces that are simple to use and understand. As a senior software developer, I feel fortunate to have joined this fast-paced team that is using technology to help the environment. As renewables continue to expand the energy mix and electrical vehicles (EVs) become a more significant portion of the automotive fleet, the work we’re doing here at Virtual Peaker plays an important role in helping to manage that growth.

What else can you share?

I enjoy programming at home to make my own life easier—expense tracking, the total cost of ownership for some new cars I’m looking at, stuff like that—and I also love to travel, including trips out west to snowboard.

With the travel limitations due to the pandemic, I’m trying to up my game cooking and brewing. I enjoy baking artisanal bread and hope to someday make them as good as what’s served at the Blue Dog Bakery in Louisville. I’ve been home brewing German- and Belgian-style beers since college, and I just planted some apple trees so that once they’re full size I can make small batches of cider for friends and family.
